Our guest today is Dr. Preeti Hiremath who was one of the few women who did her Masters in General Surgery after her MBBS & graduated from JN Medical College in Belgaum, Karnataka, in 1992.
A Consultant general and laparoscopic surgeon at Santosh Hospital, Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital, and an Associate Professor at the Malaysian Medical College she is also a DNB teacher. She has performed more than 2500 laparoscopic tubectomies ie family planning operations in FPAI.
Married to a businessman, she is a mother of two: a daughter who is doing her post-graduation in emergency medicine in the UK. & her Son is an advocate & practicing in the high court.
She had a childhood full of extracurricular activities that made her into an exponent of Bharatanatyam. University blue in badminton & a bronze medallist in the state-level swimming championship.
Fond of traveling, she now advocates a lifestyle with Yoga, Pranayam & meditation for a happy & healthy life.

It’s Ambedkar Jayanti today & our guest is special, the charming & articulate Shukla Bose, Founder-CEO Parikrma Humanity Foundation.
Shukla is bridging the growing gap in urban India between those who benefit from economic liberalisation and those who don’t – through Parikrma Humanity Foundation, a non-government organisation founded in 2003. Her professional work spans over 26 years in the hospitality sector and over 19 years in social reform, education advocacy, and the social sector. A TED speaker, she was also awarded the Pride of Karnataka Roundtable International in 2015.
Current involvements:
Shukla has been shaping and influencing education policies at the State and National levels. She was a member of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission (KKC) - headed by Dr. K Kasturirangan. She is an academy Member at HundrED, Finland, and is currently (2022) one of the Advisors in the National Focus Group, working on a chartered school governance and leadership plan.
Bose works with the Karnataka State Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) and IQ Education Excellence Task Force to check on the quality of education. A national CII Education Committee member, Shukla, helps draft the national policy for schools. She is on the board of a few private and public sector organisations for the prevention of sexual harassment of women in the workplace. She continues to publish peer-reviewed papers in conferences and international journals.
Past work experiences:
Shukla was with the Oberoi hospitality group for 13 years and was the CEO of RCI for 11 years. She volunteered with Mother Teresa for seven years. Her experience with slum and street children greatly encouraged her to make the development of under-served children her mission in life.
Awards and recognition:
Shukla was awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1995, the Bharat Gaurav Award in 1996, and the Woman of the Year Award in 2000.
She received the Pride of Karnataka Award from Roundtable International in 2015 and was nominated as a Bangalore Hero in a Bangalore Mirror in 2014. Other recognitions include the Qimpro Platinum Standard Award in Education (2017), Women Achievers Award (2018) from FICCI-FLO. Times Power Women Award (2019).
She was recognized for her contribution to the education of the poor by the Save Government Schools initiative (2019). She was awarded the International Excellence Award for Education Development from the Global Achievers Foundation, the Parivathan Inspire Awards for Women and child development in 2019, and the ‘Work of Wonder’ by WoW Skin Science, celebrating those who work towards bringing a change in society, 2021.

It was World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd. In keeping with that, Our guest today is Pushpa P Bopaiah - an Equine Therapist -The only certified therapeutic riding instructor in India helping children with physical disabilities and other challenges such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, & autism. Pushpa is certified by Strides Therapeutic Riding Center, Inc., California, a therapy centre accredited by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association, Inc., Los Angeles. (NARHA). She completed her training here in 2000 and came back to India to introduce therapeutic riding for the first time in India in her hometown- Bengaluru.
Pushpa has also completed her Masters in Sociology at Bangalore University and has received a diploma in horsemanship from the Grallsta Riding Centre. She also briefly worked at the Arundel Park Riding for Disabled Inc. in Australia.
Pushpa has a diploma in Special Needs Teachers Training from AP Teacher Training Institute and in 2011 Pushpa began an integrated preschool for children. Her school, Ninos Pre-school and Day Care in BTM Layout, Bangalore had over 36 students, which included 20 children with special needs.
She believes that integration at an early age will help children with special needs to cope better with the world around them

It was earth hour last Saturday, the 25th of March, and on the podcast today we have one of the most Nature Friendly & successful entrepreneurs in Bengaluru for a conversation! Sustainability is his middle name! His ability to successfully manage a juice business with no pile up for the landfills has become his trademark! He does not serve the natural juices in paper or plastic cups with straws. In fact, he has no single-use plastic in his juice center or even distributes tissue papers. Eat Raja has proved it is possible to be zero waste, sustainable & still be successful in business.
Career-wise he has an interesting mix! An engineer who went on to become a popular RJ & then move on to become an inspirational entrepreneur! His zero-waste policy makes him serve his innovative juices in fruit shells!

nature-friendly serving style! He stayed put with this idea & today not only has franchises locally but is busy looking at inquiries globally too.

After 100 guests it's Season 2 on "U n' I with Rashmi Shetty"! This is episode 1, in conversation with one of India's best storytellers as celebrate World Storytelling Day on March 20th.
Our guest today is Geeta Ramanujam who is an internationally renowned storyteller, educator, academician, and administrator. She is the Executive Director of Kathalaya Trust established in 1998 which is the culmination of her vision and wisdom.
She also founded Kathalaya’s International Academy of Storytelling –the only credible and globally recognized Academy for Storytelling in the World with affiliations to USA, Scotland, and Sweden. She has completed 187 batches of her certified Beginners and Diploma courses so far. She has trained over 99495 adults so far.
Geeta Ramanujam is an Ashoka fellow and has widely traveled to 48 countries and the 27 states in India to establish Storytelling as a tool of learning and also to set up centers.
Geeta has also performed and trained people at the Scottish Storytelling Centre, UK, Norway, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, South Africa, Austria, Greece, Istanbul, Thailand, Japan, Sweden, Poland, USA, Sri Lanka, and Brazil to name a few..
She is also the Indian Coordinator for the International Storytelling Network –RIC besides being the Indian coordinator of the Indian Storytelling Network. Geeta has several awards to her credit including the recent International award for the Best storyteller at the BOCADEU storytelling festival in Brazil and the Governor's award in Tamil Nadu for the Best Story Narrator. She has won the Bangalore Hero Award twice and was recently honored by Prime minister Modi ji in his Man Ki Baat program.
Geeta uses storytelling as an effective educational and cultural tool in training for parents, teachers, NGOs, and corporate sectors both in India and globally. Geeta is also a consultant in Education and is on the board of several educational institutions and storytelling centers both in India and abroad.

This is episode number 105 & guest number 99. An article in the Speaking tree column of the Times of India Introduced me to the concept of Uketamo and quoted Yamabushi Tim Bunting who was born in New Zealand. After graduating from International University (IPC) located in Palmerston North, New Zealand, he applied for the JET Program run by the Japanese government and was sent to Shonai as an assistant language teacher. Tim also holds a master's degree in applied linguistics from the Victoria University of Wellington and currently teaches English at Tohoku University of Community Service and Science. In addition to his teaching career, he has also made a name for himself as the "Kiwi Yamabushi" and works fervently to promote both the charm of the Dewa Sanzan as well as Yamabushi culture abroad on both his YouTube channel and his blog.

Our guest today is Shivani Kapoor
Shivani [or Sonia as she is more popularly known] is an environmentalist and nature lover, committed to greening the world around us for the last 10+ years.
A self-taught horticulturist, Shivani specializes in sustainable horticulture. where the core philosophy centers around growing flora and fauna suited to the climate of the region and one which fosters the symbiotic relationship between plants, birds, and bees.
Shivani has been instrumental in making Legend, a 14-acre condominium into one of the greenest in Gurgaon by transforming a rather barren landscape into dense greenery and planting and growing over ~250 large trees. With the active support of conscientious citizens, she started a project of developing green zones in the green belts of Sector 57. Barren patches are now flourishing green.
Shivani also led a citizens' movement amongst ~ 2,000 residents to convert the entire society into a “green society” which recycles all its waste and contributes nothing to the ever-growing landfills.
Shivani is committed to helping anyone who is choosing to build a greener planet and claims she learns mostly from nature and the “malis” who have been her teachers for many years.
Shivani is also the founder of marigold_by_sonia, a green venture that is primarily into landscaping & greening any space - from a tiny apartment area to larger land spaces.

Our guest today is Megna Jain - an entrepreneur, baker, and public speaker. She runs a gifting and celebrations company called Dream a Dozen that started in 2018. They pride themselves on running an all-women kitchen that bakes delicious treats for their individual and corporate clients.
At the age of 18, she started selling cupcakes to her university's cafeteria and never looked back. Today, they deliver desserts and gift boxes to thousands of customers across the country.
Megna did her B.Com honors from Christ University, which was followed by a stint at a food tech startup called InnerChef and training at Cakewala. She completed the 10k women entrepreneur program by IIM Bangalore and Goldman Sachs in 2021.
Megna's work has been recognized nationwide. She was selected as the youngest of 4 women achievers by Tanishq in their campaign #Everywomanadiamond where she was shown on hoardings and newspapers across the country. She has also been written about in leading publications like Vogue, YourStory, Prajawani, and Humans of Bombay.
She has also been a TEDx speaker and is passionate about encouraging more people, especially women to choose entrepreneurship. Megna dreams of opening kitchens globally, where she can employ more women and change the representation of women in the F&B industry.
